A. DesRochers Scholarship Program
Purpose:
To encourage and assist
students who are members of the New Hampshire Chapter of the IMA who
demonstrate outstanding potential to pursue a career in accounting or finance.
Field of study:
Accounting or Finance, with a
preference to students who have expressed interest in management accounting.
Level of education for which award is granted:
Undergraduate accounting or
finance programs.
Number, amount and type of award:
One undergraduate scholarship
in the amount of $500 will be awarded for use during the student’s senior year.
One alternate winner will be
selected in the event an awardee declines the award or subsequently becomes
ineligible. The alternate winner will
not be notified unless the original winner declines or becomes ineligible. A recipient of a previous scholarship from
the NH chapter or from the IMA/Stuart Cameron McLeod Society is not eligible to
apply for another scholarship from the NH Chapter.
Criteria for selection:
The NH chapter scholarship
committee will base its decision for awarding scholarships on a combination of
factors including academic merit, need, other scholarships awarded, outside
student activities, and other relevant factors such as the number of hours
worked outside of class during the school year.
The NH chapter scholarship committee will be comprised of the following
individuals: current chapter president, prior years chapter president, vice
president of professional education, director of student activities, and the
vice president of finance and administration.
Method of disbursement:
Cash payment to the school on
behalf of the student will be made approximately each September for
scholarships awarded the previous May, upon receipt of registration
documentation.
Eligibility requirements:
Applicants must be current
members of the New Hampshire Chapter of the IMA or be members of official
Student Chapters of the NH Chapter.
1)
The applicant
must have a declared major or concentration in accounting or finance.
2)
The applicant
must be a full time student carrying at lease 12 credits per term, or
equivalent.
3)
The applicant
must apply for the scholarship during the junior year for use during the senior
year.
Method of Applying:
Applications will be submitted
to the Chapter’s Scholarship Committee.
Apply to:
The application consists of a
form with attachments containing the following information:
1)
Biographical
data, employment record (if applicable), campus activities, and signature
2)
An official
transcript of undergraduate grades.
3)
A letter of
recommendation from an accounting professor, or college dean, which also
includes verification of major field of study, and the expected date of
graduation.
4)
A letter by
applicant addressing career objectives, why he/she is applying for the
scholarship and why he/she merits the scholarship above all others.
Application period:
All completed applications
must be postmarked by February 28 to be eligible.
Announcement of winners:
Winners will be announced at
the May regular membership meeting of each year and in the May Newsletter.
